Head and neck:
Snout is long, rather pointed;
bold black markings on the whitish throat.

Body:
Medium-sized civet; grey brown fur with mixture of stripes and spots; black spots that form rows over the back; a dark line extends along the back and onto the entire length of the tail.

Limbs and tail:
legs usually black; tail with alternating bands of black and nearly white fur; 15 black bands on tail; hindfoot longer than common palm civet, 8.9 to 10.5 cm; tail length 20.9 to 35 cm.
