A medium to large oriole; 23-28 cm TL; 65-100 g. Head and neck: Forehead, cheek, and throat golden yellow; through eye and crown black; eye brown; bill black.

Body: Unmistakable bright yellow and black bird; overall bright yellow; most of wing black. female color duller than male.

Limbs and tail: Legs and feet grey; tail greenish yellow with broad black band near base.
