Head and Neck:
Massive head that cannot be retracted; covered with enlarged undivided scales; jaws hooked; throat with flattened rounded tubercles
Body:
Carapace - oval, flattened; yellowish brown, grey or olive in color, each scute with radiating dark pattern;
five vertebral scutes; four pairs of costal scutes; a keel along the length of the vertebral scutes
Plastron - the plastron is relatively large; yellow in color, sometimessometimes with darker pattern
Limbs and tail:
The tail is nearly as long as the carapace and is covered by large epidermal scales
