The small head is indistinguishable from the neck region is covered with small juxtaposed scales; row of small scales separated the supralabials from the mouth; tiny eyes with vertical elliptical pupils

Body:
Body is stout and compressed; chin shield and rostral absent; midbody scale row count is 100; short prehensile tail; Dorsum is dark grey, olive or bluish grey with cream-colored transverse bands (prominent among juveniles, absent in some adults); snout to vent length = 64 cm
