Africa helmeted turtle
Pelomedusa subrufa


Head and neck: head moderately large; brown dorsally; chin, tympanum and side of neck pale yellow; two barbels on chin; neck relatively short; when viewed in front, neck rests on the side.

Body
Carapace- brown; broad; flattened dorsally; 1st vertebral largest, broader than long; cervical scute absent; >30 cm SCL unusual.


Plastron- yellowish brown to pale yellow with dark seams; underside of marginal scutes plain yellow; intergular present; pectoral triangular in shape; anal scutes notched.


Limbs and tail: brown; tail is short.
