Head and neck: yellow, brown, grey or black with or without dark spots; head is moderate; weakly hooked; upper jaw tricuspid.

Body
Carapace- varies from yellow, dark brown, grey to black with dark blotches; domed and rounded with abruptly descending sides; highest behind the center; posterior margins flared and slightly serrated; cervical scute long and narrow;vertebrals broader than long; carapace appears smooth compared to "lumpy" appearance of T. hermanni; supracaudal single, undivided.


Plastron- yellow, greenish yellow, brown or grey with dark spots; gular scutes slightly thickened; do not extend beyond carapacial rim;

Limbs and tail: enlarged tubercles on thigh; backside of thigh with a large conical tubercle; anterior forelegs with 3 to 6 rows of scales no enlarged tubercles on thigh; no enlarged scale on til tip.
