Head and neck: Head is moderate; non-projecting snout; upper jaw hooked and tricuspid; large prefrontal scale may be divided or undivided; frontal scale usually absent or small.

Body
Carapace- domed with almost abruptly descending sides (almost vertical); yellowish brown with dark brown or black spots; 1st vertebral as broad as long; 2nd to fifth vertebral broader than long; well-defined growth rings on center of vertebral and pleural scutes; supracaudal undivided.

Plastron- a pair of gulars, slightly protruding; deep anal notch; a single inguinal in contact with femoral scute.

Limbs and tail: yellow to brown; front surface of forelimbs covered with three or four longitudinal rows of large scales; tail without a large terminal scale.
