Head and neck:
Head is yellow or tan; distinct frontal and prefrontal scales on the head compared to G. elegans

Body:
Caparace - high domed, but flattened dorsally; nuchal scute absent; marginals weakly serrated posteriorly; black or dark brown in color; each vertebral and pleural scute with yellow spot on center and radiating lines (star pattern); carapace is flatter compared to G. elegans; fewer rays on the pleural scutes (seven or less).

Plastron:yellowish; supracaudal scute undivided, cervical scute absent; either no plastral pattern or scutes with black or dark brown blotches (vs. radiating lines on G. elegans).

Limbs and tail:
Limbs yellow or dark brown; claws and scales on limbs are bright yellow; tail is short.
