Red-footed tortoise
Chelonoidis carbonarius


Head and neck: Head is moderate, non-protruding snout, and slightly hooked upper jaw; Head scales orange,, red or yellow.
Body: Carapace - dark brown to black, with a yellow spot on the center each scute; growth rings on scutes are prominent, but the appearance is much smoother in older individuals.

Plastron: yellowish brown; males have very pointed anal scutes that extend to contact the rear marginal scales of the carapace, while females have shorter and rounded anal scutes.

Limbs and tail: bright red scales on limbs; digits are not visible, only nails are seen; tail dark grey.
