Head and neck: Head is moderate to large, greyish brown with orange spots on side of the head; snout slight projecting with a hooked upper jaw; two large barbels followed by 2-3 smaller pairs on chin; neck greyish brown.

Body
Carapace - Color varies from ligth to dark brown or black; seams black; elongated, oval, and high domed; broadest behind the midsection; first vertebral scute is broad anteriorly; second to fifth usually longer than broad; three keels may be present; not as prominent on older individuals.

Plastron - A single movable hinge between the pectoral and abdominal scutes is present; brown.

Limbs and tail: Limbs greyish brown; short tail terminates with a spine.
