Head and neck: head is moderately small; snout pointed, the skin at the back of forehead with irregular scales; upper jaw unnotched, serrated; can be distinguished from P. tecta by the absence of the large marking on temple; neck stripes few and indistinct.
Carapace: greenish brown to brown; elevated in the middle with flat sides; interrupted red or orange median keel; spike-like projection with black tip pointing upwards on the third vertebral scute; ; second vertebral scute may be smaller than first and third; smaller spike-like projection on the fourth vertebral scute pointing downwards; first, second and fifth vertebral scutes are broader than long; third and fourth are longer than broad; seams between base of pleural and anterior of marginal reddish brown.
Plastron: long and narrow; yellow with a large black blotch on each scute; anal scutes notched.
Limbs and tail: Uniform grey with enlarged scales; no spots; digits webbed.
