Diagnosis for genus - combination of two loreals, smooth ventrals, and a subcylindrical tail with two divided caudal annuli alternating with complete annuli; round pupil, complete row of lateral supraocular granules, an incomplete or absent intertympanic sulcus , and keeled proximal subcaudals. Head and neck: head large, wedge-shaped; black with brown and white scales; dorsal of head brown with black edges; labial scales off-white; pupil round; gular pouch swollen; short broad black bar behind eye.

Body: robust, black with white scales forming transverse crossbands
